Choosing an analytical balance

By lab2date Admin

An analytical balance reads to 0.1 mg (0.0001 g) or finer and is fundamental to quantitative work.

Specifications that matter

  • Readability: 0.1 mg for general analytical; 0.01 mg (semi-micro) or 1 µg (micro) for trace work.
  • Capacity: match to your largest routine sample plus container.
  • Repeatability: the real indicator of usable precision — check the spec, not just readability.

Installation and use

Site away from drafts, vibration and temperature swings; use a dedicated balance bench. Calibrate with traceable weights and follow USP minimum-weight requirements for the smallest sample you weigh.
